The short version:
We have used this stove for two years now and provided the wood is suitable it works like magic!
The heat spreads through the whole of the ground floor if we leave the room door open, so it’s very economical.
Make sure you find a local installer who is recommended by others and is competent to install the Burley stove as it is not run-of the mill.
The long version:
Our installers misled us over what was possible with the stove installation and then damaged our chimney and roof, and I had to finish the external air supply from our cellar myself. Be careful who you choose!
We use Birch to start it and Beech, Ash or Oak mixed in once it is drawing well.
The design of the stove is brilliant. No warm air is lost up the chimney from the room, so it is as warm as toast within an hour or so. The flame is a good indicator for when to adjust the air flow. Our adjusting lever needs a stern kick at times and I extended it to give a bit more leverage, but now we can tweak it to keep a good fire going. The flames are mesmerising and our cat is in seventh heaven.
